Baucom's Closes South Carolina Facility

Baucom's Nursery will close its 320-acre operations in Summerville, S.C., to develop the land in Dorchester County.

June 13, 2007

Baucom's Nursery will close its 320-acre operations in Summerville, S.C., to develop the land in Dorchester County. "Summerville worked as a nursery site for us for a decade," says CEO Gary Baucom. "We've had a good run here, but the best use of this land is not in nursery stock. It just doesn't make sense anymore."

For the past four years, Baucom's has been steadily downsizing from 3.8 million square feet of greenhouse production to just over a million square feet reported in our Top 100 Growers ranking in May. Baucom's has hired online acution firm West Auctions to liquidate the Summerville nursery, as well as surplus equipment from its Florida and North Carolina operations.
