Scotts Miracle-Gro named former Gander Mountain boss and home Depot chief operating officer Mark Baker president and chief operating officer, GleeWire reports. Baker, who is currently on Scotts' board of directors, will take on the position next month and will step down from the governance, nomination, compensation and organization committee roles on the board.
Chairman and CEO Jim Hagedorn says Baker's leadership on the board and background with outdoor living retailer Gander Mountain and Home Depot provides him with a unique understanding of Scotts' retail channels. "I have known Mark for more than a decade and have long considered him to be a talented and innovative executive," Hagedorn says. "He has a strong understanding of Scotts Miracle-Gro, including the opportunities and hurdles that face our company and the lawn and garden category."
Baker said he was pleased to be joining what he considered to be among the best consumer product companies. "From marketing to sales to supply chain, it has demonstrated a record of leadership and innovation that provides a solid foundation for continued success. I have great respect for the depth and skills of the Scotts Miracle-Gro team, and I look forward to helping to drive our continued improvement and profitable growth."
