Carolina Nurseries Going To Auction With Plants
All signs are pointing toward Carolina Nurseries closing later this month, as an inventory liquidation of the nursery's 5 million-plus container plants is scheduled to take place June 23-26 at the South Carolina-based operation.
All signs are pointing toward Carolina Nurseries closing later this month, as an inventory liquidation of the nursery’s 5 million-plus container plants is scheduled to take place June 23-26 at the South Carolina-based operation.
No property, structures or equipment will be auctioned off during the June 23-26 auction, which Reimold Horticultural Auctioneers is conducting. A complete Carolina Nurseries plant inventory breakdown is expected to appear at NurseryAuction.com at some point this week.
Greenhouse Grower left a message for Carolina Nurseries President J Guy on Monday regarding the state of his operation, but that phone call has not yet been returned.
Carolina Nurseries, which is based in Moncks Corner, S.C., told its 335 workers back in late April that unless it could repay a bank loan, the nursery operation would likely close. The target closure date set was June 21.
“This is our lives. We don’t want it to happen,” Guy told the Post & Courier newspaper in Charleston back in April. “We are doing everything in our power for it not to happen. We have dealt with (Hurricane) Hugo and snowstorms and everything else. We can deal with a banking disaster.”

Very sad times in the industry, Where is the bailout for the people who help and touch so many peoples lives. Just imagine how many people have a Carolina Nursery plant somwhere in there landscape. I do!!!!!

carolina nursery is a local treasure. it is well run, a source of many jobs beyond the 335 employees and well respectred in it's field and it's green. To lose it would be like watching the last whale die.
