EYE Lighting International, the Ohio-based manufacturer of the HORTILUX brand of horticulture market lamps, has partnered with Sunlight Supply, Inc., a manufacturer of horticulture lighting systems, to donate new lighting equipment for the hydroponics greenhouse at Lake Metroparks Farmpark in Mentor, Ohio.
EYE Lighting donated high-pressure sodium and metal halide bulbs, and Sunlight Supply provided fixtures and ballasts to light more than 300 square feet of growing area in the main hydroponics greenhouse. High intensity discharge lighting (HID) was chosen because it most closely replicates the full spectrum of natural sunlight and is economical in providing the most lumens per watt.
"We look forward to seeing the effects of our new greenhouse lighting this winter," says Valerie Reinhart, horticulture education specialist for Lake Metroparks Farmpark. "Seeing all the vegetables and flowers in full bloom in the dead of winter should open people's eyes to the fun of gardening twelve months a year. We encourage guests to experience our newly lit horticulture display."
Adds Tom Salpietra, president and COO of EYE Lighting: "Hydroponics has become a rapidly growing hobby for many North American gardeners. Growing fresh produce indoors year-round is not only healthy, but economical.”
