June 4, 2010
Canna Tropical series by American Takii
Tropical Bronze Scarlet, new for 2010, is the first bronze-leaved canna from seed. Like the rest of the series, it is extra dwarf with a fast production period. It prefers warm and moist conditions above 77 degrees F.
Carnation SuperTrouper Butterfly Dark Red (pictured), Light Pink Evol., Light Pink Evol. and Pink Evol. by Selecta First Class
SuperTrouper fits well into pot, bedding plant and perennial programs. The attractive, rounded plants have good branching, uniform habit, large color range and nice scent. Light Pink evol. and Pink evol. feature improved habit.
Caryopteris 'Lil' Miss Sunshine' by Proven Winners
This cross between 'Sunshine Blue' and 'Petit Bleu' has shiny yellow foliage and a neat, compact habit, with abundant blue flowers in late summer. The variety grows well in USDA Zones 5 to 9 and is heat tolerant to AHS Zone 9.
Centradenia 'Blushing Cascade' by GroLink
Blushing Cascade is very floriferous and trailing, hardy to USDA Zone 8 and great in baskets and combos. It is a day-neutral plant so it flowers year-round. Blushing Cascade's shell pink flowers contrast with its dark red-bronze foliage.
Centratherum 'Brazilian Button' by GroLink
'Brazilian Button' is part of the aster family. Its foliage is olive to light green. Hardy to Zones 9 to 11, this centratherum is long lasting and has a fluffy, button-like 1-inch flower. 'Brazilian Button' grows 12 to 18 inches tall with a spreading habit of 2 to 3 feet. It is best in the landscape, in rock gardens or in combo pots.
Chaenorrhinum Arista by Kieft-Pro-Seeds
Featuring the darkest flowers of any on the market, this first year flowering perennial is less spreading and more compact, making it less breakable and more appealing at retail. The semi-cascading plants have good center flowering and finely textured foliage. It's a great candidate for spring mixed container programs with pansies and alyssum.
Chysothemis 'Black Beauty' by GroLink
'Black Beauty' is part of the violet family. It is best used in combos, in the landscape or as a houseplant. It's recommended to keep 'Black Beauty' about 60 degrees.
