Allan Armitage and Judy Laushman formed the Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers (ASCFG) at the University in 1988. Now, the organization provides production and marketing information to 600 growers across the United States and seven other countries.
One of the most popular member services is the online bulletin board, which connects growers on topics as diverse as grass control in perennial cut flowers, the best fertilizer injectors for small growers or production methods for greenhouse ranunculus. All discussions are archived, providing years of valuable information.
Another online project is the ASCFG Price Index, into which members enter their own retail, wholesale and farmers market prices so that other growers can compare prices in their markets.
ASCFG provides networking opportunities to its members, too, through its annual national conference and trade show. This year, it will take place September 8-11 in Portland, Ore.
