New Registration & Label For Safari In California
Approval of bark spray application, granular formulation provide new treatment options.
January 25, 2010
The California label for Valent Professional Products' Safari 20 SG insecticide has expanded to include a basal trunk spray application method. Additionally, a 2 percent granular formulation of Safari has also been registered for use in California.
A super-systemic neonicotinoid with quick uptake and knockdown of a broad spectrum of invasive pests, including problematic pests like whiteflies, Asian citrus psyllid, mealybugs, soft and armored scale, Safari also provides applicators with unmatched flexibility, ease of application and residual control.
Now available for use in California in two formulations, Safari can be applied as a basal trunk spray, soil drench, soil injection, foliar spray or granule.
Safari 20 SG
Already available for use in California as a foliar spray, soil drench or soil injection, an amendment to the existing registration in California now permits use of Safari 20 SG as a basal trunk spray. Safari 20 SG is labeled for use in greenhouse and nursery settings, interiorscapes and outdoor ornamental landscapes.
With the basal trunk spray, Safari 20 SG is applied to the bark on the lower five feet of a tree trunk until it is visibly wet. The active ingredient in Safari, dinotefuran, is then absorbed through the bark into the tree's vascular system and transported throughout the plant. The basal trunk spray is simple, intuitive and promises to save applicators valuable time.
"The bark spray is an important tool for applicators in California because it allows rapid systemic treatment of trees without the need for soil application or an invasive trunk injection," says Joe Chamberlin, Valent regional development manager. "In addition, calibration is simple. Just spray the lower trunk to runoff. This means less labor and makes applicator training easy. This is why the basal trunk spray has become a popular application method for Safari 20 SG in other parts of the country."
Safari 2 G
A granular formulation that is applied dry to the soil, Safari 2 G is approved for use in greenhouse and nursery settings, interiorscapes and outdoor ornamental landscapes.
"Registration of Safari 2 G in California provides applicators - some of whom would prefer to use a granular product - with yet another treatment option," Chamberlin says. "All they have to do is grab the jug and the enclosed measuring cup, and follow the label."
