Fafard has released a new germinating mix conveniently packaged in compressed bales. Fafard Young Plant Mix features superfine, stick-free, horticultural-grade peat, formulated for plug production and liner production including Ellepots.

Available from Canada in a 110-cubic-foot Hi-Rise compressed bale as well as smaller sizes, Fafard Young Plant Mix contains peat, perlite and vermiculite. The mix is designed for direct seeding or rooting cuttings into 1.25-inch trays or smaller and Ellepot systems of 30 millimeters or smaller.

"When trialed in commercial greenhouses, we found the mix produced well-toned, compact and easy-to-pull plugs," says Jamie Gibson, Fafard's director of research and development.

In addition to the 110-cubic-foot Hi-Rise bale, Fafard Young Plant Mix is available from Canada in 64-cubic-foot, 55-cubic-foot Quantum XL and 3.8-cubic-foot compressed bales. Fafard Young Plant Mix can be customized with a variety of additives.

"Packaging our new germinating mix in a compressed bale provides the grower with a consistent, high-quality formula while saving time and labor," says Bruce Adams, Fafard manager of professional products.
