New Denver Botanic Gardens Greenhouses Are Standouts
Nexus Greenhouse Co. built the production greenhouses and the Orangerie for the publicly funded revitalization effort at the Denver Botanic Gardens.

The Denver Botanic Gardens is an oasis in the middle of the City of Denver. The new, $15 million, 15,000 square foot greenhouse production range and Orangerie officially opened the week of Sept. 20. The project was publicly funded through a voter-approved Better Denver Bond Program that included additional revitalization efforts around the city.
Nexus Greenhouse Co. was the design/build/manufacturer of the production range, as well as the Orangerie. There are six Vail, gutter-connected structures in the production range, each 30-feet x 88-feet. They are divided into 12 zones with a 10-foot corridor and a 17-foot gutter height. Glazing is 16-mm impact modified acrylic and Viracon low Solar screen low-E (emissivity) insulated glass.
The Orangerie is a 14-feet by 195-feet and 14-feet by 34-feet aluminum lean-to greenhouse with Acrylic and Viracon glazing with roll-up style doors.
The new complex features state-of-the-art greenhouses with flexibility for 12 climate control options. A renovated pavilion serves as display space for plant collections that are predominantly orchids, bromeliads and ferns. The facility also has a public classroom and horticultural department offices.

At 1000 bucks a square foot this building should house the Governor not plants. Don't get me wrong it looks beautiful but why is it that publicly funded projects are always three or four times the market rate? As a citizen of Colorado I appreciate what DBG does for our community, but $15 million?
