SunHosta is a medium-sized variegated hosta that performs best in the full sun and hot, humid conditions of the Southeast. Plants will express its full white variegation in full sun only.

SunHosta has very low cold requirements compared to other hosta varieties. It will stay vegetative under short days during winter months in South Florida. In other areas with occasional freezes, plants will go dormant during winter months and reemerge bigger in early April.

At the same time, one can expect very similar performance to other hosta varieties in the North except for the full-sun tolerance. A very strong drought tolerance makes this plant even more attractive for landscapers.

Southern growers in Zones 10a and 10b are able to grow SunHosta year-round. Plants will bloom in April if planted in the fall. For the rest of the country, it's recommend you follow this schedule:

Culture Notes

Hardiess:
Zones 4-10
Light: Full sun to partial sun
Propagation: From TC only, available in 72-count Ellepots
Media: Peat based, well aerated is best
Irrigation: Keep moist during vegetative period, don't overwater while dormant
Fertilizer: 200ppm from well-balanced feed during vegetative period

-For gallons, plant 72 liners in summer and early fall for spring sales.
-For quarts, plant 72 liners in fall for spring sales.

Place SunHosta outside in full sun right after transplanting. In the spring, plants could be forced earlier inside the greenhouse or cold frames after being exposed to cold temperatures for six weeks. Maintain at least 68°F and supplemental light for faster growth.

Starter plants are available through Grolink in 72-cell trays. Contact Paul Gaydos at paul@grolink.com for more information.

I live about 35 miles northwest of Atlanta, GA. where can I find a retailer that sells the Sun Hosta?

What are minimums? What is pricing? When are plants available? What brokers do you use?
