Lowe’s, Big Box Stores Ready For Mother’s Day

Hanging baskets, potted plants and an assortment of flowers and shrubs for Mother’s Day filled Lowe’s newspaper insert and in-store ad for the week of May 4.

Featured flowers and shrubs in the ad include bud and bloom roses, Forever and Ever hydrangeas and assorted azaleas and daylilies. Lowe’s also featured 8-inch plants from the Plant for the Cure collection, and it will donate 10 percent of the plant’s purchases to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Still, Lowe’s wasn’t the only big box store to load its ads with plants for Mother’s Day. Kmart produced two ads this week, including one that featured a deluxe Mother’s Day bouquet that’s available in stores May 8. It has taken 15 percent off the price of flower bulbs and packaged plants, as well, and premium flowering hanging baskets are nearly 50 percent off their original $19.99 price. Kmart also featured an assortment of perennials, shrubs and vegetable and herb plants.

In Macy’s weekly ad, flowers are listed as available simply by stopping at store photo booths.

Even World Market got into the act for Mother’s Day. It featured sweet pea/daisy or Black-Eyed Susan/oriental poppy garden kits with biodegradable starter pots, reusable galvanized basket containers, seed packets, markers and growing instructions for $14.99.
