Elzinga Supplies The Urban Gardener At Meijer

The next line of plants at Meijer retail stores includes the Urban Gardener, a line of vegetable and fruit pre-planted potted plants from Elzinga & Hoeksema Greenhouses in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Urban Gardener line was created specifically with urban dwellers in mind, allowing them to grow a mini-crop of vegetables and fruits in small spaces like balconies, porches and windows. The line is completely organic as certified by USDA, and it includes more than a dozen products like cucumber, strawberry and tomato varieties.

“This line not only allows urban dwellers to ‘live off the land’ and grow their own vegetables and fruits in a very small area, but now those who purchase one of the Urban Gardener potted plants can rest assured that the product is free of pesticides and other unhealthy contaminants,” says Mark Elzinga, president of Elzinga & Hoeksema.

“Considering the rising price of produce, growing your own crop and picking your own vegetables and fruits fresh and in small amounts only as you need them can save a lot of money in the long run.”

Elzinga & Hoeksema is also supplying Meijer stores with Quick Combos, a line of professionally arranged mixed potted plants. The line includes flowers and accent plants available in 9.5-inch, 11.5-inch and 12.75-inch containers.

“Quick Combos creates an instant combination of color in a doorway, deck or patio, and is perfect for the customer with limited time for gardening or outdoor work around the home,” Elzinga says. “The product was developed especially for the moms and dads who are stretched thin running between work and their child’s games.

“They simply fill their favorite decorative pot with soil, drop in the Quick Combos and they’re done.”
