Cornell Floriculture Field Day Coming Up

Educational seminars on growing annuals, battling big pests avoiding common plant nutrient disorders are part of the plans for the annual Cornell Floriculture Field Day this year, taking place July 22. Participants will also visit Cornell’s plant trials, which include more than 1,000 different annuals and perennials.

Pat Hooker, commissioner of the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, will lead a morning welcome with John Lincoln, president of New York State Farm Bureau.

Educational seminars will be led by Rick Schoelhorn, director of new products for Proven Winners who will present on growing and enjoy annuals; John Sanderson, who will discuss insects and pest management; and Neil Mattson, who will lead the seminar on avoiding common plant nutrients disorders in the greenhouse and landscape.

In the afternoon, informal tours of Cornell’s plant trials will be led in the gardens by university professionals. The annual beds are sponsored by Ball Flora Plant, Ball Horticultural Company, Gro Link, Oro Farms, Pan American, Proven Winners and Syngenta.
