AFE Wins Platinum MarCom Award For “Murder, Sex and Greed”

afe awardThe American Floral Endowment (AFE) took home its fourth award for the animated awareness video “Murder, Sex and Greed.” MarCom Awards selected the video from more than 6,500 entries as the best nonprofit film.

“We’re thrilled to receive MarCom’s Platinum Award — the organization’s top honor,” says AFE Executive Director Debi Aker. “This video has been instrumental in helping raise awareness of AFE’s commitment to solving problems in the floral industry, and to win four prestigious awards shows its impact.”

The one-minute video was developed to educate the floriculture industry about AFE’s positive impact on critical industry problems. It can be viewed and shared online at Endowment.org/awareness.

Marcom Awards is an international creative competition for any individual or company involved in the concept, writing and design of print, visual, audio and web materials and programs. The contest is administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals. Judges look for companies and individuals whose talent exceeds a high standard of excellence.

AFE’s previous awards include the DC Ad Club’s Silver 2014 American Advertising (ADDY) Award recognizing the video’s creative excellence, Gold Circle Award from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) for excellence in association/nonprofit marketing and communications and a Thoth Award from the National Capital Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for outstanding and strategic public relations efforts.

Two New Members Join The Board Of Trustees

The American Floral Endowment (AFE) also recently announced Cynthia Hanauer and William Hardin, Jr. as new members of its board of trustees. Both will serve a three-year term with the option for a second term.

Hanauer is founder and CEO of Grand Central Floral, LLC in Jacksonville, Fla. She has worked in the floral industry for 45 years and held senior positions at the Kroger Company, Winn-Dixie Stores and 1-800-Flowers. Hanauer’s areas of expertise include inventory management, visual merchandising and quality assurance. She is chairman of the floral advisory board for the United Fresh Industry Trade Association, a member of the Society of American Florists (SAF) and the Network of Executive Women, and is actively involved in several other floral organizations.

“There’s no greater honor and privilege than to serve as a trustee for an organization whose sole purpose is to reinforce the future of our industry through much-needed scholarships and research, while employing the generous donations of the many noble benefactors who have made our industry so great,” Hanauer says.

Hanauer will serve on the public relations/development committee, as well as on the Floral Marketing Research Fund (FMRF) committee.

Hardin is president of Hardin Global, LLC located in Siler City, N. C. Prior to that, he was president of Hardin’s Wholesale Florist in Liberty, N. C. from 1992-2010. He has been involved in the floral industry for 35 years and previously served as president of the Wholesale Florist & Floral Supplier Association (WF&FSA) and on the board of directors for SAF from 2000-2007. He specializes in the operation of greenhouses and wholesale florists.

“I look forward to working with everyone to improve the floral industry,” Hardin says. “AFE plays such a crucial role in floriculture research. I am pleased to serve on the board for this forward-thinking organization.”

Hardin will serve on the public relations/development and education/scholarship committees.
