Music-Themed Gardens At Hicks Nurseries
February 20, 2008 Long Island’s Hicks Nurseries will chase winter away by presenting a symphony of flowers for its customers over 10 days from Feb. 29-March 9.
The free, 10-day event will feature beautiful indoor display gardens in bloom, gardening seminars, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities and a horticultural fair. Established in 1853 as Long Island’s oldest garden nursery, Hicks is located on Jericho Turnpike in Westbury, N.Y. This is Hicks’ 18th annual flower and garden show.
Here are the special themed gardens that will greet consumers:
“Wine and Roses Garden” overflowing with Flower Carpet and Knock Out roses.
“Jack and Jill Garden” with a search-and-find activity for youngsters
“Rock and Roll Garden” highlighting plants such as coreopsis ‘Jethro Tull,’ polemonium ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and rosa ‘Yellow Submarine’
“Rhapsody In Color” classical music garden with a relaxing patio and seating area.
The show gardens will be well labeled and packed with ideas for home gardeners. While horticulture and design specialists will present practical advice in two dozen demonstrations and seminars, Long Island chefs will put on cooking demonstrations with tastings and recipes.
