Trade Show Ends 33-Year Run

The California Association of Nurseries and Garden Centers (CANGC) formally announced the closing of Garden Market Expo held in Las Vegas Nevada since 1995. The show, formerly called both the Pacific Horticultural Trade Show and the Western Nursery & Garden Expo, was an event CANGC produced since 1976.

“The current economic recession necessitates change, and the time has come to move forward with a new business plan for the association.” says Chris Martinez, association Chairman of the board who’s general manager at Orchard Nursery and Florist, in Lafayette, Calif. “We greatly appreciate all the support we have received over the years for Garden Market Expo from both members and non-members whether exhibitors, attendees or hard-working volunteers who helped make the show possible.”

CANGC announced the opening of a new show last week: the Nursery Mart. The show will feature products, supplies and equipment for growers, retailers and landscapers. Exhibitors from around the world are invited to participate in the Nursery Mart.

“We are very excited about this new California-based show that will run concurrently at the Orange County Event/Fairgrounds Center with the very popular California Grown Show, an event that is exclusive to California growers only.”

The decision to develop the Nursery Mart was bolstered by survey results from the attendees of the 2009 California Grown Show who specifically asked the Association to keep the “all green” show in one building and have another building for hard goods suppliers for the retail, grower or landscape industry.

Richard Kline of Burchell Nursery in Oakdale, Calif., who’s also chairman for the 2010 California Grown Show committee, says the key to both exhibitors and attendees is that there are two shows on one day at one venue. The cost of a booth for members of the CANGC, the Nursery Growers Association or the San Diego County Plant and Flower Association is $675. For non-members, the booths cost $850.

Prices apply to both the California Grown Show and The Nursery Mart. For more information, contact Stephanie Rodgers at (800) 748-6214 x 16. Visit CaliforniaGrownShow.com for more information on the California Grown Show. The Nursery Mart website is under construction.
