University of Florida Offering Online Training Courses For Greenhouse Growers

University of Florida Online Greenhouse Training CoursesFor the second year in a row, the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) is offering a series of online courses aimed at helping greenhouse growers and their staff make better crop management decisions.

The online training courses will be offered in English and Spanish and start on May 30. Each course runs for four weeks, costs $200 per participant, and includes a personalized certificate of completion. Each week there are two streaming video lessons, readings, and assignments (about three to four hours total commitment per week), which can be accessed at any time of day. Bilingual Ph.D. instructors can be accessed via text chat and discussion features.

The schedule of online courses planned for 2016 include:
Greenhouse 101 (Introductory level) from May 30-June 24
Nutrient Management 1 (Introductory level) from July 18-Aug. 12
Nutrient Management 2 (Advanced level) from Aug. 22-Sept. 16
Disease Management (Intermediate level) from Sept. 26-Oct. 21
Weed Management (Intermediate level) from Oct. 24-Nov. 18

The first course, Greenhouse 101, is ideal for new employees, or employees with practical experience but lacking formal horticulture training. Topics covered are plant parts and functions, photosynthesis and growth, greenhouse technology, flowering, compactness and branching, irrigation, nutrition, and plant health.

Each employee can be registered individually to track their progress. They will need their own unique e-mail address before registering. You will also need their first and last name, and date of birth (for security purposes).
Once you have registered, you will be sent an online link to access the course with a desktop computer, tablet, or smart phone.
