Albert Grimm of Jeffery’s Greenhouses in St. Catharines, ON, Canada, was named Head Grower of the Year at Greenhouse Grower’s Evening of Excellence, held July 11 at Cultivate’16 in Columbus, OH. Grimm was also recognized for Excellence In Outreach and Leadership, based on his efforts to enhance horticulture education in his area and help the next generation of growers enter the industry with the skills needed to succeed.
“We’re not just selling plants, we’re also selling a lifestyle,” said Grimm. “We should all be proud of what we do, and we need to keep this passion and drive alive in the next generation of growers,”
Grimm is involved at his local community college as an instructor and as a member of the advisory committee for the Niagara College Greenhouse Program. He is a member of the Canadian Greenhouse Conference Committee, dedicating time to host seminars at conferences locally and beyond. He helps plan and also participates as an instructor for evening workshops held at the local research station for all members of the industry wanting to learn more. In addition, he often brings local growers together in study groups, where the emphasis is on sharing information to strengthen the local growing industry as a whole.
