Evening Of Excellence Is An Evening To Remember

Medal of Excellence

For the first time this year, we’re opening up two Medal of Excellence awards to nominations from the industry. The Industry Achievement and Marketing awards, named historically by the magazine’s editor, will now go through a panel’s review after the nominations period ends February 28.

Industry Achievement is a “lifetime achievement” award that recognizes individuals, companies and organizations that have dedicated their life’s work to advancing varieties and the floriculture industry. Adrian Bloom of Blooms of Bressingham received the award last year.

The Medal of Excellence for Marketing award, meanwhile, honors innovative marketing programs that generate consumer interest and demand. Programs that receive this award are not new but tested in the marketplace for several years before consideration.

The Industry Achievement and Medal of Excellence for Marketing award winners will be recognized at Greenhouse Grower’s Evening of Excellence event. The Evening of Excellence is held annually at the OFA Short Course and is often referred to as the Oscars for greenhouse floriculture. More than 400 growers, suppliers and allied representatives regularly pack the room to recognize the award recipients in our Medal of Excellence and Grower of the Year programs.

The Evening of Excellence has evolved over the last few years with the incorporation of our Grower of the Year award three years ago, and that particular award’s expansion two years ago into a program that recognizes an Operation of the Year and a Head Grower of the Year. Greenhouse Grower also now accepts nominations from the industry for Grower of the Year awards, and nominations are then whittled down to four finalists for Operation and Head Grower of the Year.

Likewise, our Reader’s Choice Award, given to the top new variety as voted upon by you, the reader, opened to nominations for the first time last year. Reader’s Choice and the two Grower of the Year awards will again be open to nominations in 2012.
