Metrolina, Coronado Earn Grower Of The Year Awards

Greenhouse Grower hosted its annual Evening of Excellence event July 12 at OFA Short Course, where it unveiled the 2010 Operation of the Year and Head Grower of the Year award winners.

Earning Operation of the Year honors this year is Metrolina Greenhouses, the sixth largest greenhouse operation in the United States that’s constantly developing new ideas, inventing new production systems and automation and building effective service and merchandising programs.

Head Grower of the Year honors, meanwhile, went to Regina Coronado of Stacy’s Greenhouses. With a staff of four assistant growers, four scouts, eight irrigators and 12 chemical applicators, Coronado uses a variety of methods to ensure every plant grown at Stacy’s grown to the highest quality and ready to perform for the consumer.

Coronado manages 250 miles of drip irrigation and 20 acres of lit growing beds, and she keeps the operation at the front end of technology and innovation because of her willingness to learn and improve.

Greenhouse Grower congratulates Metrolina Greenhouses and Regina Coronado, as well as all the finalists for the Operation of the Year and Head Grower of the Year awards. Finalists include:

Andrew Britten, Costa Farms (Head Grower of the Year)
Marc Verdel, Battlefield Farms (Head Grower of the Year)
Tom Wheeler, Bell Nursery (Head Grower of the Year)
Bob’s Market & Greenhouses (Operation of the Year)
Rocket Farms (Operation of the Year)
Terra Nova Nurseries (Operation of the Year)
