Color Spectacular

Breeders gearing up for California Pack Trials give growers a sneak peek into new color options for spring 2009.

Novalis
Osteospermum ‘Oops-A-Daisy Banana Split’ is an interspecific hybrid that flowers much longer than other osteos. Their bright color and dark eyes make them perfect for mixed containers.

PanAmerican Seed
Mediterranean XP series vinca varieties produce uniformity like never seen before - summer basket production is more programmable, more predictable and easier. These big, beautiful plants show a lot more color and a lot less basket. All varieties flower in a 5 to 7 day window and have a significantly better spreading plant habit and improved germination.

The all-new, disease-tolerant, heat-loving Zahara zinnia series has 20 percent larger flowers in stronger colors including a triple play of the first Yellow, the first Scarlet and the first well-balanced Mixture in a zinnia of this type. Available in Coral Rose, Scarlet, White, Yellow and a Mixture.

The range of color and the garden performance of the Elegance Regal Geraniums just continues to get better. Sunset Orange is one of the newest additions to this series and brings a new dimension of color to the line, with flowering, plant habit and time to flower are all in line.

‘Crescendo Dawn Blush’ is the newest follow-up to the popular ‘Crescendo Primrose.’ This series of osteospermum has larger flowers and a more vigorous plant habit, with longer-lasting flowers into the heat of summer. Blooms have a background of creamy white that is lightly blushed by pale lavender in the youngest flowers and fades as blooms age.

Pleasant View Gardens
Dazzle-Me Lilac nemesia matches Proven Winners’ Compact Innocence nemesia in every way: habit, flower power, fragrance, branching and height. Very floriferous and good for 4.5-inch containers and the landscape, it reaches 6 to 8 inches tall.

Proven Winners
Mandalay displays a delicate, single bloom in strong brilliant colors: Mandarin, Pearl and Flamingo. It prefers full sun in most parts of the US but needs shade in high light settings. It will grow to a height of 10 to 12 inches and spread 18 to 30 inches in a hanging basket.

‘Supertunia Silverberry’ joins the Supertunia Vista petunia series, offering incredible performance in the landscape, and heat, drought and humidity tolerance with a vigorous mounding habit. It does best in full to partial sun.

Blushing Crimson brings a new bi-color bloom to the Infinity New Guinea Impatiens Series. Deep crimson edges fade to white centers while each flower retains one petal fully crimson for a pansy-like effect. It will reach a height of 10 to 14 inches and spread 10 to 18 inches.

Selecta First Class
‘Royal Candy Pink’ ivy geranium is new for 2008/09 and has large pink and white bi-colored flowers, dark green zoned foliage, and medium-high vigor. The color doesn’t fade and flowers last unusually long for a geranium. It has great flower-power throughout the summer and looks stunning wherever used.

The color range of Famous petunias grew with the latest additions to the series: ‘Famous Lilac Picotee’ and ‘Famous Purple Dream.’ ‘Famous Lilac Picotee’ has a stable white border around its lilac flowers and performs outstandingly throughout summer. They are Famous because of their medium-high vigor, semi-trailing habit, early flowering and excellent garden performance.

Syngenta Flowers
The Arrow snapdragon series is an extremely early-flowering, medium height garden-type snapdragon. Strong stems withstand wind and rain for excellent garden performance. Standing 18-20” tall in gallon pots and 20 to 24 inches in the garden, these four new colors (deep red, pink, yellow and white) are an outstanding choice.

The new Volumia begonia series has five great colors to choose from (light pink, pink, rose bicolor, scarlet and white). The series is early flowering with controlled vigor making them easy to produce, ship and display at retail.

Terra Nova Nurseries
Ensete ‘Tandarra Red’ is and excellent foliage plant with waxy fronds of deep green to reddish purple tones and leaf margins. Very similar to ensete ‘Maurellii,’ it has a slightly more contrasting leaf and vein color. Reaching 3 feet wide and 4 feet tall, use ‘Tandarra Red’ for an exotic, tropical look.
