Year-Round Radiance
New perennial and shrub introductions offer more choices for color and texture to growers and gardeners.
Novalis
‘Mystical Ruby’ hydrangea blooms in spring with ruby red flower heads that stimulate the senses. As flowers fade, they take on a richer red color with a green eye. Dark green foliage holds up to summer heat. Hardy to 5 to 8.
‘Mystical Red Star’ hypericum is a large, red berried form that fills the fall garden with interest and cut floral arrangments with lovely hips. Hypericum can be used as a specimen plant or in showy drifts. Offering bright yellow flowers in spring, this variety is rust resistant and hardy to Zones 5 to 9.

Aquilegia ‘Songbird Cardinal Improved’ is a first-year flowering perennial with large, deep red and white flowers. It grows 11 in. tall and spreads 10 to 14 in. Well-adapted for 6-in. pot and garden use, economical-to-grow Songbird can be flowered in spring from a fall sowing; Hardy to Zones 3 to 8.
Delphinium ‘Guardian White Improved’ is a breeding breakthrough, with very uniform blooming within each variety, especially under short days, so growers can program multiple ship dates. New for 2009 is White Improved, with longer, stronger stems, shorter crop time and better uniformity. Hardy in USDA Zones 4 to 7.

Let’s Dance Starlight Hydrangea macrophylla, a Proven Winners Color Choice shrub, is the first-ever new wood blooming lacecap variety. Its massive blooms sit atop strong stems and provide color all season long.
Berberis thunbergii ‘Sunjoy Gold Pillar’ is a barberry selection in the Proven Winners Color Choice line. The first upright, golden barberry with red new growth, this variety is burn resistant and reaches a mature height of 3 to 4 feet with a moderate growth habit.
STEPABLES
Gypsophila ‘Rosea’ is a charming perennial for surrounding shrubs or accentuating a rock gardn. Its gray-green, thin, elongated foliage stays low to the ground and is covered in small, pink flowers in late spring.
Herniaria glabra ‘Sea Foam’ adds a splash of color to the ground. Because of its durability, this creeper is great for pathways and as a lawn substitute. It reaches 12 inches maximum in height.

Campanula ‘Blue-Eyed Blonde’ features brilliant gold foliaget that gives rise to large, 1-inch bells of deep blue flowers. Hardy to Zones 4 to 9, this bellflower forms a slow-spreading, low-growing mat and thrives in full sun.
Helleborus ‘Regal Ruffles’ is a strain of vigorous, double blooms that include giant, fluffy flowers with triple the usual nubmer of petals. A colorful mix of red, green, pink, yellow and picotee offers interest and are hardy to Zones 5 to 8.
