All three of Barbara’s daughters, including former volleyball player Elisabeth McCutcheon, returned to the United States with Barbara by air ambulance. Hugh McCutcheon, head coach of the 2008 U.S. Olympic men’s volleyball team, husband of Elisabeth and son-in-law of Todd and Barbara, remains in Beijing to fulfill his coaching duties.

“We are indebted to the physicians and caregivers at Peking Union Medical College Hospital who have done such a wonderful job providing Barbara with the medical care she needed,” Hugh says. “We are also extremely appreciative of the support we have received from people here in Beijing, the United States, New Zealand and around the world. The prayers and support have been a source of strength for our family during this difficult time.”
