Pennington owned Colorado Cuttings in Lafayette, Colo., and Cherokee Cuttings in Terra Ceia, Fla. As owner of Colorado Cuttings, he was featured on the August 1991 cover of Greenhouse Grower. According to the corresponding article featuring Colorado Cuttings, Pennington expanded facilities regularly and modified crop mixes in each of the operation’s first five years.

“We can’t be doing the same thing year in and year out,” Pennington said. “You can’t survive that way.”

A memorial picnic is being held at Waneka Lake Park in Lafayette on May 25 at 4 p.m. for those who would like to join the Pennington to celebrate his life.

I’m sorry to hear of Russ death. When we first started doing our liner production in the early nineties Russ and John Wilson were way ahead of everyone in regards to perennial and annual propagation. They only had one acre at the time but moved a ton of material through them.
I met Russ for the first time at a Mc Calif’s sales presentation and though we were going to be competitors he treated me like a true gentleman. I’ll never forget that.
