Micandy Gardens Greenhouses, winner of Greenhouse Grower’s 2017 Operation of the Year award, leverages social media to get the word out about its products and spread the word about how flowers can make a difference in people’s lives. One of its goals is to make direct connections with Generation X and Generation Y customers. Here are four suggestions Marcelyn Buist-Byl, President of Micandy Gardens, shares to reach the Millennial generation:
- Marry value with instant gratification. “When you combine both of these elements and come up with price points Millennials are interested in, you’ll attract their attention,” Marcelyn says.
- Understand what is out in the marketplace. To stay on the cutting edge, you need to stay up-to-date on what the garden industry has to offer, and you need to know what is available out in the marketplace with fashion, home goods, furniture, and other industries, Marcelyn says.
- Keep up with what is happening on Pinterest. Marcelyn says this is a great way to understand what other markets have to offer and track the trends.
- Pay close attention to the Pantone Color of the Year. This color eventually ends up filtering through all types of products that Millennials buy, Marcelyn says. You can take advantage of that to offer plants and products that coordinate.
