Private Garden Participates In Extreme Home Makeover

Private Garden Greenhouse Systems is donating a Victorian glasshouse to a deserving family in this coming season’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” on ABC. The build took place July 14 through July 21 this year.

“Extreme Makeover Home Edition” approached Private Garden about donating a personal greenhouse to the Hampton family in Ash Grove, Mo. The Hamptons, who love to garden, recently welcomed their four nieces and nephews into their home — a one bedroom cottage that was already very small for the the family of four.

“While taking part in a once-in-a-lifetime experience, it was great to see what good a group of strangers can do with the goal of helping others in mind,” says Peter Sackrider, one of three crew members to fly to Missouri and construct the Victorian glasshouse. “Through our time on site, it was interesting to see how friendly and willing to help all the volunteers were from the very start through the very end. It’s not your typical construction site where each group does their own thing with no consideration for anyone else.  Everyone was there for the Hampton family and no other reason.”

The episode will air this coming Sunday, October 4 at 8 p.m. EDT. For more information on the project, visit the Private Garden website at Private-Garden.com.

I always wonder how such wonderfully donated houses and trucks and stuff are donated to families that cannot afford such things. The taxes, upkeep, electric bills, fuel bills, and such would seem to leave the family in worse shape than it started in.
Unless the glass english greenhouse is self contained and does not need electricity to run the fans or fuel to run the heat how is a family going to run such an expensive undertaking as a greenhouse? Where will they get the expensive pots, soils, fertilizers, insecticides, knowledge to run a greenhouse? What seems like an altruistic gift can easily be storing bicycles in it by mid February. Has anyone thought of this?

Extreme Makeover takes great care in selecting individuals who are responsible and due to circumstances beyond their control have hit hard times. These individuals have either experienced sickness, tragedy or have open there home to family and non-family members who may have experienced tradegy. Extreme Makeover takes great care to make sure that the homeowners have no mortgage or any other expenses that would hinder their ability to meet day to day expenses. I believe in the end these individuals have a new life that allows them to live without the previous day to day burdens that they once had.
