Vegetalis Is Working To Make Growing Vegetables Easy For Consumers

For the past four years, Vegetalis has presented container vegetable crops at Spring Trials. Amy Gard’ner, the company’s new product development manager, says both growers and retailers have been excited about Vegetalis’ offerings, but there haven’t been enough sales.

So this year, the company is working on a few new marketing concepts to bring Vegetalis’ considerable number of container veggies to retailers nationwide.

Growers want to be able to give consumers combination containers of vegetables, but many growers have trouble finding vegetables that will work together without any becoming too dominant, Gard’ner says. Vegetalis trialed different combinations of veggies to provide growers with a list of vegetables that will work together in combinations.

The breeder also came up with four turnkey, themed combinations growers could produce for premium retail sales: Sweet -n- Neat Combination, Eastern Sun Mix, Napolitana Mix and Spicy Salsa.

For a lower consumer price point, Vegetalis worked with MasterTag to come up with the Cook Up Some Color carry packs, which allows consumers to put the same combinations together on their own. The Cook Up Some Color carry packs are available on the market now for any interested growers.

Finally, to reach those box store consumers, Vegetalis is developing in-store consumer clinics, designed to resemble those for putting up drywall or tiling a bathroom. How-To Clinics like “Create Your Own Container Kitchen Garden In 20 Minutes” are simple, five-step, led clinics that aim to help box store customers design and build their own vegetable combination gardens. Ideally it will create new gardening customers, starting with veggies and working into flowers, Gard’ner says.
