Four Companies Honored at Annual
Medal of Excellence Award
Willoughby, Ohio - For nearly 20 years, Greenhouse Grower’s Medal of Excellence Awards have recognized talented individuals and visionary companies that have played significant roles in the growth of the global floriculture industry.
This year’s award ceremony was held Monday, July 16 during the OFA Short Course and Medal of Excellence Awards were presented in five categories. Selected by a committee of industry experts and the editorial team and readers of Greenhouse Grower magazine, these awards represent some of the finest work in breeding and marketing in the past year. The 2007 Medal of Excellence Award winners are:
- Industry Achievement - Perennial Plant Association
- Marketer of the Year - The Novalis Network of Growers
- Industry's Choice For Breeding - Cora vinca, Goldsmith Seeds
- Editor's Choice - Blutopia and Snowtopia bacopas, PanAmerican Seed
- Reader's Choice - Cora vincas, Goldsmith Seeds
"Innovative varieties and marketing programs are going to make growers, retailers and consumers more successful and are the lifeblood of the floriculture industry," said Delilah Onofrey, editor, Greenhouse Grower magazine. "It is very gratifying to recognize those who are behind the scenes making it happen. The breeders, especially, are behind the scenes and spend years and years developing new varieties."
Members of the 2007 selection committee included Dr. Allen Armitage, Vaughn Fletcher, Vinny Naab, Al Gerace, John Gerace, Jr., Rick Mast, Joyce Mast, Abe Van Wingerden, Sim McMurry, Mark Yelanich, and Delilah Onofrey, as well as members of C. Raker & Sons, Inc.
"Medal of Excellence rewards the best new varieties and the people and organizations that are long-term industry powerhouses, like this year's winners Perennial Plant Association and Novalis. Our industry panel is a Who's Who of floriculture, as is our awards ceremony at Short Course," said Sara Tambascio, editor, Greenhouse Grower magazine.

Willoughby, Ohio - The wait is over and the nominees for the prestigious Greenhouse Grower Medal of Excellence Awards have been selected.
The nominees will be invited to attend the annual Medal of Excellence Awards ceremony on July 16, 2007, in Columbus, Ohio during the OFA Short Course, where the 2007 winners will be announced at the annual invitation-only awards reception.
"This year's class of award nominees represents some of the most innovative and exciting varieties the industry has to offer," said Delilah Onofrey, editor of Greenhouse Grower. Voters will be able to view images, read and hear audio summaries, narrated by Greenhouse Grower Editor Delilah Onofrey, of the plant variety finalists selected by an esteemed industry review committee attending the 2007 California Pack Trials.
Voters will also have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a free OFA Short Course registration (courtesy of OFA - An Association of Floriculture Professionals), a special invitation to the Medal of Excellence Awards Ceremony to view this year's winner in-person and other special prizes. In 2007, another milestone in the proud history of the awards will be achieved with the introduction of a new category of excellence – the Reader’s Choice Award. The award will be presented during the annual Medal of Excellence Awards Ceremony, July 16, 2007, in Columbus, Ohio.
Selected solely by the readers of Greenhouse Grower, this award provides readers the opportunity to select the leading variety they feel merits an award for excellence in breeding. Before they vote, readers will be able to view images and read and hear audio summaries of the plant varietals finalists that have been selected by an esteemed industry review committee attending the 2007 California Pack Trials.
Voting will be done exclusively online at www.greenhousegrower.com starting in May. Voters will automatically be entered into a drawing to win a free OFA Short Course registration, a special invitation to the Medal of Excellence Awards Ceremony to view this year’s winner in-person and other special prizes.
