Double Profusion Zinnias Named All-America Selections Winners

Zinnia 'Profusion Double Hot Cherry'

All-America Selections (AAS) has named two additional winners for the 2013 season — Zinnia ‘Profusion Double Deep Salmon’ and Zinnia ‘Profusion Double Hot Cherry.’ Both are bred by Sakata Seed Corporation. These additions bring the grand total to eight AAS winners for 2013.

Salmon-colored double flowers cover ‘Profusion Double Deep Salmon’ from late spring through fall. ‘Profusion Double Hot Cherry’ offers deep-rose double flowers continuously on well-mounded plants from late spring through fall. More features include:

  • In trials, both varieties held their color better and later into the season than the comparisons.
  • Foliage covers spent blossoms, giving a much fresher appearance without the need to deadhead.
  • Mature plants are 8 to 14 inches tall and are perfect as a low- or medium-height divider.
  • Disease resistant to both Alternaria and powdery mildew.

Each of these winners was trialed next to two or three other similar varieties currently on the market. AAS judges grew each entry and the comparisons, then did a side-by-side analysis of growth habit, disease resistance and more to determine if these plants were truly better than those already available to home gardeners. Those entries with superior garden performance are granted AAS awards.

Brokers and growers can purchase these varieties immediately. Consumers will find this seed for sale in the coming months as supply becomes available from mail order companies and as seed or young plants in lawn and garden retail stores.
