SuperFloral Show, Charlotte, N.C.

Several people told me this will be one of the most beautiful shows to attend, and they did not disappoint. Throughout the Charlotte Convention Center cut flowers, blooming potted plants and colorful accessories were visible in booth after booth. This show was stunning.

Some background: This show is for volume buyers, i.e. supermarkets, floral shops, retail centers, etc. The exhibitors were growers, wholesalers and some allied trade.

The first day consisted of educational sessions, and though attendees waited a while at the check-in (even pre-registered attendees were waiting to check in) the day was a hit. There were more than 300 people at the sessions, which were a first for SuperFloral. I went to informative sessions all day, on topics that ranged from marketing, business and merchandising. The first day was helpful, because buyers who attended were relaxed and not busy thinking about their buying strategies yet. I was able to talk with some buyers and discern what their plan of attack would be for the coming days at the show.

The second day I was there the show opened. It was pretty amazing to see all the buyers lined up at 10 a.m. waiting for the show floor to open. Show organizers continued helpful sessions in small doses on the show days – the breakfast speaker the second day, Leatrice Eiseman of the Pantone Color Institute focused on “The Future of Color,” and a breakfast the third day featured a panel of produce executives and a best new products presentation.

The show was a great place for buyers to meet up with their suppliers, as well as scope out new products they can sell in their stores. I heard approval from many attendees, and they said the show is still a must every June.
