Former Harris Seeds Co. CEO, Per Jensen, Passes At 85

Per Jacob Jensen, 85, passed away Sunday, Nov. 16, following a brief illness.

Born and raised in Denmark, he was a long-time resident of Rochester, N.Y., and Carmel, Calif.

In his early years, he developed his love for plants working for a small greenhouse and Ostergaards Seed Co. in Stensballe, Denmark. He moved to Canada in 1957, where he spent several years with Asgrow Seed in Bradford, Ontario. In 1968, he went to work for The Harris Seeds Co. in Rochester, NY, progressing from sales representative to management where he served as president of Harris Seeds and then president of Harris Moran, following the merger of both companies. He retired as CEO in 1988.

In retirement, he was very involved many organizations but mostly Rebild National Park Society, an organization started during the world war to strengthen and celebrate the relationship between Denmark and the United States. Jensen also was a proud member of the Danish Lodge of Salinas, Calif. He was honored for his contributions to Rebild at its annual meeting and celebration in 2010.
