Fine Americas Offers A Digital Resource For Plant Growth Regulator Questions

Fine Americas Website Feature ImageFine Americas, which manufactures and markets plant growth regulators (PGRs), is also focused on educating growers on how to use PGRs effectively. The blog section of Fine America’s website is updated regularly, with input from both Fine Americas technical managers and independent researchers.

In one recent update, Dr. Joyce Latimer, Extension Specialist for Greenhouse Crops at Virginia Tech, narrates a video with information on mobile PGR resources for rate recommendations and calculations. The video provides an update on new products, proper label adherence, and new research.

Dr. Brian Whipker, Professor in the Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University, is another contributor to the Fine Americas blog. In a recent update, he offered tips on how to get the most out of your PGR applications, and the following factors growers must consider:
• Environmental conditions. Applying PGRs early in the morning or late at night when evaporation rate is lower allows for greater chemical uptake. After application, the PGR should be allowed to dry and wetting the leaves should be avoided.
• Avoid applying PGRs to stressed plants. The risk of phytotoxicity increases with stress. If the plants are stressed, lower-leaf yellowing can result.
• Check plants. The only way to confirm the efficacy of a PGR is to leave a few representative plants untreated. These “check plants” offer a valuable insight into ways to adjust future PGR applications.
• Dosage. The dose to apply to a crop is based on two factors: 1) The solution concentration, and 2) Volume of solution applied per area.
