OHP Launches New Insecticidal Soap, Gains New Registration for Another Insecticide in California

Aphids On Older LeavesOHP recently introduced a new insecticidal soap to its portfolio of OHP biosolutions.

Kopa insecticidal soap is a potassium salt of fatty acid soap that controls insects, mites, and powdery mildew. The product is the latest of several additions to the OHP biosolutions segment of new tools for the greenhouse and nursery industry, including vegetables and herbs production.

Kopa insecticidal soap is approved for organic production and is listed by the Organic Materials Review Institute.

“Kopa is a great addition to our OHP biosolutions products, aimed at growers who are using not only conventional, but other means of pest control,” says Dan Stahl, OHP Vice President and General Manager. “It is a great rotational tool for an insect and mite control program, whether biological or conventional.”

Kopa provides fast broad-spectrum activity on foliar insects in the greenhouse, nursery, and landscape markets.

“When Kopa is applied, the spray solution coats the insects or mite pest and causes suffocation and or desiccation. This action results in a quick knockdown. Additionally, due to its short residual, it is ideal for programs using beneficial insects or predators. Growers should introduce predators the next day or make sure not to contact them with the spray,” says Dr. Carlos Bográn, Technical Manager for OHP.

Bográn notes Kopa should be used at the first sign of pest infestations for optimal results and in a rotation with products from different classes with different modes of action.

Ancora Microbial Insecticide Now Registered in California

OHP has also announced the state registration of Ancora Microbial Insecticide through authorized OHP distributors in California.

Ancora is derived from a naturally-occurring fungus (Isaria fumosorosea Apopka strain 97) that infects both foliar and soil-dwelling pests such as whiteflies, thrips, aphids, leafminers, spider mites, grubs, and other pests.

Because of the highly virulent and effective strain of fungus, Ancora provides fast, broad-spectrum control of insects and mites in the greenhouse, nursery, and landscape markets.

Ancora contains blastospores which provide faster germination and kill than resting spores of other fungal products. They attach, germinate on the insect cuticle, and penetrate the pest, causing death in three to five days.

Ancora should be used at the first sign of pest infestations for optimal results and in rotation with products from different classes with different modes of action.
