Directing Light

In an effort to better serve its greenhouse customers, Polygal Inc., a world leader in technology and manufacture of polycarbonate multi-wall and corrugated greenhouse coverings, is expanding its greenhouse covering line to include polyethylene Polyheilos films. With this introduction, Polygal will able to offer the greenhouse distributor and OEM a broad range of greenhouse cover products from one basket.

New Films For Light Control

The new Polyheilos films are proven multi-layer technology, durable and long lasting. The films offer a selection of solar energy, transparency and thermal insulation and are economically priced. Polyheilos films’ light diffusion characteristics greatly improve photosynthesis efficiency by improving light dispersion, which is especially important for self-shading, tall and trellised plants. In addition, an anti-drip additive in selected films raises the surface tension of the film to improve light transmission and prevent water dripping on plants, which reduces the incidence of disease.

Also available are thermal I.R. Polyheilos films, designed to prevent heat radiation losses from the greenhouse to the atmosphere. This is especially important to maintain higher foliage temperatures and drier plants and reduce the incidence of frost damage. The I.R. films also lead to substantial savings in this age of high heating costs.

Polyheilos greenhouse covering films, along with Polygal polycarbonate multi-wall and corrugated sheets, are available through local greenhouse distributors and greenhouse OEMs. Ask your supplier about Polyheilos films from Polygal or contact Polygal for availability in your area at 800-537-0095 or e-mail sales@polygal.com.

White House Task Force Releases Pollinator Health Strategy

An interagency Pollinator Health Task Force commissioned by President Obama released its “Strategy to Promote the Health of Honey Bees and Other Pollinators” on May 19. The strategy, released in accordance with the Presidential Memorandum issued last June, is accompanied by a Pollinator Research Action Plan, which outlines needs and priority actions to better understand pollinator losses and improve pollinator health. The recommended actions will be supported by a coordination of existing federal research efforts and accompanied by a request to Congress for additional resources to respond to losses in pollinator populations. Pages 47 through 52 specifically address pesticides and pollinators. The report calls out plant production, native plants, mosquito control and all urban uses in its Pollinator Action Plan. RISE (Responsible Industry for a Sound Environment) says it supports the goals of improving pollinator health and habitat contained in the White House Pollinator Task Force’s release of its National […]
