California Spring Trials Day Four: New Plant Intros from Dümmen Orange, Terra Nova Nurseries, Kientzler, and More
The Greenhouse Grower team saw loads of memorable plants during day four, as it visited Dümmen Orange, Chisan Orchids, and Windmill Nursery. Dümmen had several notable introductions, including Wild Romance New Guinea impatiens in Blush Pink and White, which inspired the theme of its displays. One of the standout displays was its perennial combos with some new leucanthemum additions. Chisan Orchids in Los Alamos, CA, with Israeli breeders Hishtil, Jaldety, and Cohen Propagators, was a new stop on the route this year. Hishtil has a new gaura series out that includes a compact, low-growing variety, ‘Baby,’ with a mass of pink blooms. Cohen displayed Verbena ‘Mickey Red Rose,’ a unique bi-color that looks like a mixed combo, and Jaldety featured an interesting Cyperus prolifera. Windmill Nursery was the last stop of the day, with breeders Terra Nova Nurseries, Kientzler, J. Berry Nursery, and KiwiFlora. Two Dümmen Overseas Facilities Earn Certifications
Two of Dümmen’s overseas facilities have earned certifications: Red Fox Ethiopia reached the Gold certificate of the Ethiopian Horticulture Producer & Export Association and Red Fox Las Mercedes successfully passed MPS-GAP certification for good agricultural practices. RED FOX Las Mercedes in El Salvador started working on MPS-GAP in March 2013 and is now successfully certified. Originally developed for fruit and vegetable production, MPS-GAP has been adapted for the flower industry. MPS-GAP looks at the whole production process: land use (for example avoiding erosion); parental material; training of workers and advisors; storage and use of chemicals and fertilizers; safety, health and hygiene; policies on use of energy, chemicals and substrate; call-back procedures and waste management. To obtain an MPS-GAP certificate the participant has to have an MPS-ABC certification. MPS-ABC focuses on the environmental impact: use of crop protection agents, fertilizers, energy, water and implementation of recycling programs for paper, plastic and other waste […]

Dümmen’s Confetti Garden Streamlines Container Garden Production [Medal Of Excellence For Marketing]
