Philips GreenPower LED Solutions Meets UL/CSA Certification Requirements

GreenPower Module

Philips, a company involved in lighting, manufacturing and applying lighting solutions for horticulture, is now certified for their GreenPower LED range. With LED lighting, the Growth Light can be tuned, which makes it possible to apply the optimum light recipe at every stage of a crop’s growth. This capability, together with effective heat management and energy efficiency, opens up new opportunities for growers and breeders.

The UL/CSA certification underlines the high quality and performance and opens the way for sales and project activities in the USA and Canada. Underwriters Laboratories is an independent product safety certification organization that has been testing products and writing standards for safety for more than a century.

Philips lighting solutions are based on close co-operation with the horticultural world. Successful field tests with growers and breeders around the globe gave insight into the growth effects of lighting on different crops throughout their growth cycle. This helped to create a unique approach to lighting with specific “light recipes” that can be tailored to meet the unique needs of individual plants.

Solid-state LED lighting offers a number of benefits to the horticulture industry, including increased yields, enabling earlier flowering, speeding up root growth/germination and enabling more economical use of space. LED lighting is also highly energy efficient, helping horticultural producers to lower their electricity consumption, especially during the high energy consumption periods: Autumn and Winter.

“We are really pleased to install these new LEDs and have been working very closely with Philips and our holding company Ball Horticulture for almost four years, to trial this new technology. Now we can start to benefit from this fresh technology,” says Seed germination expert Willem Koopman.

“This will include a 30% cost saving on our energy bills and will increase the efficiency of our testing services by providing a more consistent light to our young seedlings. We use the special lighting in our germination testing chambers for our new and upcoming products before they go on sale so that we can reliably inform the grower of how many seeds will successfully turn into the premium product which we are known for. Using this new system will also mean that the seedlings require less watering because they will not dry out as quickly.”
