The newest racks from U.S.-based Mid-West Wire Products, Inc. meet those needs for growers and because they’re offered at a competitive price, growers can feasibly recycle the racks after one or two uses.

Easy To Set Up, Knock Down And Recycle

The new product is the Rivet Rack, a knock-down steel rack that was launched in January.

The Rivet Rack was designed to be mounted on a standard pallet, and can be shipped in a standard trailer. According to Jon Marler of Mid-West Wire, they are typically used at big box stores. The rack can ship disassembled, and requires minimal time and effort to install on-site. It can be used to deliver and display nursery and flower stock on standard wood, steel and plastic pallets, and can be disassembled for return trips, storage or recycling.

“That’s why it’s so unique,” Marler says.

The pallet-based steel rack is designed to provide strength at the base and offers adjustable steel support bars for shelving, which can be Mid-West-provided wire mesh, solid steel or customer-supplied plywood inserts. The rack can also be powder-coated in a variety of colors.

The Rivet Rack was designed specifically for greenhouse growers. Selling for less than $80, it is less expensive than the company’s other steel racks, and is still affordable if only used once or twice.

“A very competitive price makes this new rack an attractive product for the greenhouse grower to use,” Marler says. “The demand was for a quality yet price-competitive product that would be durable in transport and display. The Mid-West Rivet Rack meets the need.”

Also offered in Mid-West Wire’s line of nursery products are the Hi-Cube, Euro and Kars/Kal HD carts and shelving.

The Kars/Kal cart is a heavy-duty transport cart that holds 1,700 pounds and is designed for long-term use. It is used primarily among major growers in Michigan and Wisconsin.

The steel Hi-Cube cart and Euro cart are also designed for the greenhouse grower industry. All three of the carts have a hot-dipped, galvanized finish and can be easily disassembled.

Mid-West Wire Offers Custom Solutions

Mid-West Wire Products is a family owned and operated company based in Ferndale, Mich. and has been in operation for 86 years, led by Steve Chargo, the head of operations and CEO.

The company manufactures and supplies a variety of steel and wire fabricated products for industrial and commercial applications, offering standard and custom carts, shelving and racks for transport and display for greenhouses and nurseries.

Mid-West Wire has a 100,000-square-foot Michigan facility, as well as two global-sourced partners who produce a variety of steel and wire fabrication products in its manufacturing facilities.

“The grower industry has an ongoing need for quality carts and shelving at affordable pricing,” Marler says. “Mid-West supplies that need with quality, durable, yet affordable products. Our in-house powder coating facility is state of the art. We also offer a hot-dipped galvanized finish on all of our carts and shelving.”

The company prides itself in its ability to manufacture a wide range of steel products using wire, sheet metal and tubular substrate, and it welcomes custom production orders to be able to meet any grower or retailer’s needs.

“We have the ability to produce and offer custom retail displays for a wide variety of industries. These include steel wire baskets, display racks and decorative shelving,” Marler says.

Mid-West Wire owns a powder-coating facility — a standalone building on the same property as the manufacturing facility, but which operates independently. Powder coating is a standard process for the company’s products, but a variety of powder chemistries are used to accommodate finishing needs.

“Using a variety of powder coatings suppliers, we are able to offer endless colors and chemistries to meet the end use,” Marler says. “Powder coating provides a great opportunity for identification to differentiate product according to a custom color, while providing a good source of corrosion protection.”
