Six Breeders To Partner For Exhibit At Windmill Nursery At 2014 California Spring Trials

Windmill NurserySix leaders in the horticulture industry have plans for a joint-venture varieties display at the 2014 California Spring Trials at Windmill Nursery in Buellton, Calif.

The partnership will include Westhoff, Beekenkamp, Skagit Gardens, PAC-Elsner, Terra Nova Nurseries and Plug Connection.

Spring Trials at Windmill Nursery will be open Sunday, April 6 to Wednesday, April 9, 2014 and will be a launching ground for new plant varieties, signage and packaging products and merchandising programs and concepts.

“Along with Terra Nova Nurseries, this dynamic group of annual and perennial breeders coming together to showcase new varieties at Spring Trials at Windmill Nursery is very exciting,” says Dave Doolittle, director of marketing for Terra Nova Nurseries. “We are looking forward to collectively unveiling some of our finest breeding efforts to date.”

Skagit Gardens is a premier young plant producer and finisher known for its extensive line of hellebores. The company will showcase new selections of hellebores from the Heuger Gold Collection, along with the debut of several new long-blooming perennials and an encore performance by the compact helenium, appropriately named ‘Short n Sassy.’

PAC-Elsner, a German breeding company that specializes in plant and cutting distribution, laboratory, breeding and growing, will also be showcasing its new 2014 varieties to growers and other attendees.

Plug Connection is one of the region’s premier young plant producers. Located in Vista, Calif., Plug Connection’s complete assortment makes it a primary supplier for many of the West’s best growers. Plug Connection will be presenting Mighty Mato, Mesa Magic cyclamen and certified organic veggies and herbs.

German-based company, Westhoff, specializes in volume crops specifically bred for high-density production and reliability. Its new breeding in lobelia, calibrachoa and others consistently garners positive attention among the company’s grower customers.

Beekenkamp, a noted European begonia powerhouse, dahlia specialist and upcoming poinsettia breeder, will showcase its best-selling varieties along with several new varieties for the North American market.

Growing Innovations Geared to Connect Specialty Ag With…

Innovation abounds in agriculture, yet it can feel sometimes as if the gap between exciting new developments and what growers actually need in their operations can be awfully wide. We at Meister Media Worldwide intend to help narrow this gap. Which is why we’re pleased to introduce Growing Innovations – an altogether new type of event that will debut Nov. 7-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. Unlike most agricultural events and trade shows, Growing Innovations is not about technology per se, nor is it about everyday issues that growers face. Instead, this new conference and tradeshow is very acutely solutions oriented. It takes as its starting point specialty crop growers’ most pressing real-world challenges – production efficiency, labor and water shortages, logistics, and data management to name just a few – and showcases advances, both current and up-and-coming, that have the greatest potential to bring […]
