VIEW: Anna Ball At Texas A&M

Dr. Charlie Hall, the Ellison Chair In International Floriculture at Texas A&M University, has posted the video of Anna Ball’s presentation to faculty and students last month.

Ball, who is the President and CEO of Ball Horticultural Co. in West Chicago, Ill., presented "Driving Forces Shaping the Future of the Floriculture Industry" as part of Texas A&M’s Distinguished Lecture Series. Ball gave a similar presentation at the Canadian Greenhouse Conference in October, too.

Both talks were extremely well received by attendees, who got a global perspective while also zeroing in on the top trends.

Ball views sustainability as the fifth big wave that will transform our industry. Past waves include the advent of plastics and soilless media in the 1960s and ’70s, the rise of the mass market in the 1980s, the revolution in vegetative annuals and offshore production in the 90s and now sustainability. She also talks about "garden fatigue" and our challenge to make gardening appealing again.
