2015 Welby Gardens (Denver, Colo.) Field Trials Results

Welby Gardens trialed more than 886 varieties this year, which were planted in 14-inch containers. Adverse weather conditions in Denver during May and June, including snow on Mother’s Day and 23 days of rain in May and three weeks of rain in June, delayed planting. The outdoor AAS trials were planted in containers this year rather than in the ground due to the wet conditions and late planting. It seemed to have no detrimental effects on the ornamental or vegetative entries. However, the vegetable entries were more problematic due to the late planting, with little or no harvest for the tomatoes. All other categories performed reasonably well.
