2017 Container trials at Lucas Greenhouses
This summer was yet another example of how no two years are alike at the Lucas Greenhouses field trials in Monroeville, NJ. The summer started off with seasonably warm days and a typical summer thunderstorm every now and then. In late July, things began to change. Temperatures became unseasonably cool, and is was wet throughout August. September was dry and unseasonably warm with temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s.
Combinations are still a favorite of consumers at the Lucas Greenhouses field trials. Trial Manager Jason Szymanski says this was the first year he trialed the Sunpatien combos, and he was pleased with the results. The mixture of two to three colors together added another element to the already impressive series.
Lucas Greenhouses trials more than 800 containers each year.

Spreading Pink Kiss and Compact Royal Magenta

(Nikki combo) Nikki Yellow, Nikki Bronze, Nikki Pink Bicolor
(Festival Fun Mix) Nikki Yellow, Nikki Orange, Nikki Dark Pink
(Southern Harvest Mix) Cheryl Golden, Cheryl Spicy Orange, Cheryl Jolly Red
Although not a combo, Szymanski says the new Calibrachoa ‘Cabrio’ from Syngenta was also very nice.
