All-America Rose Selections Names 2012 Winning Rose

All-America Rose Selections (AARS) has selected ‘Sunshine Daydream’ as its 2012 AARS Winner, which recognizes new varieties that are not only beautiful in appearance, easy to grow and require minimal care by today’s busy homeowners.
The light yellow grandiflora from Conard-Pyle/Star Roses is the first garden rose to win under no spray conditions. It was selected as the best after participating in a rigorous two-year AARS testing cycle.
“The goal of AARS is to identify the best new roses of the year, and this year a single rose made it to the top of the list to receive the prestigious AARS award,” says Henry Conklin, AARS board president.
‘Sunshine Daydream’s cuplike petals offer a wonderful backdrop to its dark green, glossy foliage. Round, bushy and blooming continuously from spring to early frost, Sunshine Daydream was hybridized by Meilland International, which has a record 18 AARS Winners to its credit, including ‘Carefree Spirit’ and ‘Elle.’
AARS-winning roses must flourish in 15 categories, including the ability to resist disease, overall beauty and general ease of maintenance. Each winning rose bears the AARS red rose seal of approval that ensures gardeners the plants will grow beyond expectations with little maintenance.
