Aloha To Floriculture Sales

Hawaii’s floriculture and nursery products were valued at an estimated $98.6 million in 2008 according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service’s Hawaii Field Office. But the value is down 9 percent from $108.7 million in 2007.

The loss is attributed to a slumping economy, crop losses from volcanic emissions, the weather and high production costs.

Cut flowers, potted orchids, lei flowers, foliage sales, potted flowering plants, landscape plants and plant rentals all saw declines, as well as the wholesale value of bedding and garden plants.

Revenues from other nursery products were up slightly.
