American Garden Award Voting Is Open For 2013

Verbena 'Lanai Candy Cane'

American Garden Award is proud to announce that we are continuing our mission to entice more consumers to the exciting world of garden flowers with our ongoing contest, now celebrating our fifth year. In 2013, we’ve increased the number of participating gardens to thirty-one; that’s more gardens than ever before participating in American Garden Award, the nation’s only flower popularity contest. This is a unique opportunity for the public to vote on a specific flower that they think has the most appealing garden characteristics.

Each of the four entries, or as we like to call them, “contestants,” are listed below and are now planted in the participating gardens, ready to show off for the popularity voting which begins on June 1.

There are three ways to vote:

1) By texting a given code to a polling number

2) By going to www.americangardenaward.com and clicking on the flower of choice

3) By using postage-paid voting postcards located at the garden.

The four entries are:

Impatiens ‘SunPatiens Compact Electric Orange’

Petunia ‘Surfinia Summer Double Pink’

Verbena ‘Lanai Candy Cane’

Zinnia ‘Zahara Cherry’

Voting is open until August 31, and winners will be announced in September.

In the meantime, these flowers, as well as some of the past American Garden Award winners are available at retail garden centers. Ask for them by name! The 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 winners can be viewed at http://www.americangardenaward.com/past_winners.cfm.
