Blooms Of Bressingham Introduces New Perennials For 2012
July 24, 2012 Leucanthemum ×superbum ‘Freak!’
This showstopper is loaded with 2 to 2.5 inch, long-blooming, fluffy-looking white flowers with some “freaky” petals going in different directions. Programmable for weekly flowering and a long-selling season, ‘Freak!’ blooms in seven to nine weeks. It has a compact habit, 13 inches tall (9 inches in a pot) by 21 inches wide. Perks include first-year flowering and no pinching needed. Full sun or part shade — in hot areas — help this plant thrive. Bred by Har Stemkens of Syngenta Flowers and introduced through Blooms of Bressingham, ‘Freak!’ grows best in USDA Zones 5 to 8.
Geranium ‘Azure Rush’
Featuring the same traits as its famous parent Geranium ‘Rozanne’ (a PPA Perennial Plant of the Year) ‘Azure Rush’ has 2.5-inch light blue flowers and a more mounding habit. A heat-loving variety, it blooms from late May until frost. ‘Azure Rush’ boasts vigorous growing, is compact and has a self-branching habit. This variety also thrives in USDA Zones 5 to 8 and AHS Heat Zones 12 to 2. Vernalization is not required for flowering. A hybrid of ‘Rozanne’ from the Waterers, this geranium was discovered at Jeddeloh Nursery in Germany. It is a Blooms of Bressingham introduction.
Anemone hupehensis ‘Pretty Lady Julia’
A new addition to the Pretty Lady series, ‘Pretty Lady Julia’ has pink 2-inch double blooms with the same flower power. It also has an excellent dwarf habit with improved container performance over older, taller varieties. This anemone grows to 16 inches tall by 20 inches wide and 18 inches tall in container. It is fall blooming and prefers full sun to part shade. More shade is necessary in very warm climates. Vernalization isn’t required for flowering, and there is no pinching or maintenance either. ‘Pretty Lady Julia’ is a good choice in USDA Zones 5 to 9. Buddleja ‘Burncross’
Brightly variegated, this plant features whitish-yellow foliage and violet-mauve flowers that attract butterflies from midsummer to early autumn. It has stable variegation, and is non-invasive. It does not spread or seed. ‘Burncross’ has a habit that is more compact and mounding than is typical of the genus at 34 inches tall by 30 inches wide. It grows best in full sun and USDA Zone 6 (Zone 5 in Colorado). This variety comes to Blooms of Bressingham from John and Rob Senior.
