British Kids Have A Ball With Garvinea

The British royal family honored the stand of gardening guru Peter Seabrook with a visit during RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2011. In this stand, proud schoolchildren presented their own-grown vegetables and garden plants. A notable appearance was the flourishing garden gerbera Garvinea. In two months time, the children managed to grow plugs to stunning garden-worthy flowering plants.

Back in March, the children of 12 British primary schools started full of enthusiasm with the project to cultivate their own Garvinea plants. The young plants of this three-season-long flowering garden product were sponsored by Gerbera breeder Florist De Kwakel from The Netherlands. During a visit of Florist in April to Charlton Manor Primary School, it became clear the children took their task seriously. The plants grew well and quickly many flower buds were visible.

Besides planting Garvinea in the school gardens, the best plants were selected for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. On the first day of the UK’s leading garden event, the children told Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and Camilla about their experiences during the school project.
