Edibles App Available Now

P. Allen Smith and Bonnie Plants have come together to launch an iPhone and iTouch app this week called Grow And Go Together.

The app features growing information for more than 50 vegetables and herbs, as well as recipes, an option to sort plants by season, how-to instructions on vegetable garden projects, vegetable and herb container garden combos and more.

“We’ve been growing herbs and vegetables for almost 100 years now, and wanted a user-friendly way for gardeners to access some of our best tips,” says Stan Cope, president of Bonnie Plants. “These tips paired with P. Allen Smith’s recipes and container ideas make for a fun app for gardeners at any level.”

When I go to your website on my iPhone it takes me to the site map & I am stuck there. No matter what link I click on, it takes me to the site map.

I really wanted to check out this app!

Hold on a minute Allen.

You do not have an iPhone app. You have a mobile web page.

Did you know that it is ILLEGAL to promote your site as an *app* – using the Apple, iPhone and iTouch names.

It is similar to propagating a branded plant and calling it your own. You wouldn’t do THAT would you?

So I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt – thinking that someone handed you a script and you have no idea that you are misleading your audience and breaking the law.

So now you know, and have a chance to make a mends in advance of Apple’s legal counsel knocking at your door.

Happy to discuss with you if you have questions.

Our interest is in providing a free application that is instantly accessible to users via Bonnie’s P. Allen Smith’s website. The webapp platform allows us to do this. Feedback on the app has been positive – users are really enjoying having so much planting and cooking tips right at their fingertips. We’re looking forward to offering more gardening apps in the future.

Has this been resolved yet as to the legality of it being promoted as an “app” as opposed to a mobile web page? I would like to to refer to it on my web page, my column and blog but won’t until this is straightened out.
