Five Favorites from Four Star

Four Star Entry

One of the perks of my job is getting to visit greenhouses. My visit to Four Star Greenhouse for their Open House was definitely a privilege and a welcome break from being in the office. They had dozens of containers planted up and were asking visitors to vote on their favorites. They use the results to help them plan what combinations to offer the following year. Here are my top five:

Sangria Sky

Partially because I love pink and blue together and partially because this was simply beautiful, this combination of Lobelia ‘Laguna Sky Blue’ and Petunia ‘Supertunia Sangria Charm’ was tops on my list.

Royal Heritage

Second was a striking combination of Verbena ‘Lanai Red,’ Lobularia ‘Snow Princess’ and Petunia ‘Supertunia Watermelon Charm.’ Wow!

Hannah’s Hope

Another favorite was a combo they called “Hannah’s Hope,” which was composed of a lovely mix of Petunia ‘Supertunia Mini Appleblossom,’ Calibrachoa ‘Superbells Pink’ and Verbena ‘Lanai Blush White.’

Petunia and Thunbergia Combo

I wouldn’t have thought to put this combination together, but that shows what I know. Petunia ‘Pretty Much Picasso’ and Lobularia ‘Snow Princess’ intertwined with Thunbergia ‘Lemon-a-Peel’ make an unusual and appealing basket.

Russian Nights

This container planting appealed to my dark side. I love how the dark centers of Petunia ‘Supertunia White Russian’ picked up the black leaves of Ipomoea ‘Sweet Caroline Bewitched’ and complemented the bronze and purple colors of Plectranthus ‘ColorBlaze Keystone Kopper’ (syn. Solenostenum ‘ColorBlaze Keystone Kopper’) and Pennisetum ‘Purple Fountain’ from the Graceful Grasses series. The addition of the yellow Nemesia ‘Sunsation Lemon’ was a nice touch and the Lobularia ‘Snow Princess’ tied it all together.
