Fleming’s Hardy Hibiscus
We present a few new varieties for 2010-11 from Fleming’s Flower Fields, a hybrid breeder based in Lincoln, Neb.:
‘Copper Queen’ Hibiscus
‘Copper Queen’ grows 2 ½ feet tall and sports 11-inch white flowers heavy red streaking. This hibiscus has dark red ovate leaves and is hardy to -30°F.
‘Little Prince’ Hibiscus
‘Little Prince’ grows 2 ½ feet tall and sports 10-inch lavender flowers with pink edges. This hibiscus has small, green Maple-shaped leaves. It is also hardy to -30°F.
‘Pink Comet’ Hibiscus
‘Pink Comet’ grows 2 ½ feet tall and sports 9- to 10-inch flowers with red and pink markings on both side of petals. This hibiscus has small, shiny green Maple-shaped leaves. It is hardy to -30°F.
‘Small Wonder’ Hibiscus
‘Small Wonder’ grows 2 ½ to 3 feet tall and sports 9-inch white flowers with red and pink streaks and markings on both sides of petals. It has miniature black-purple Maple-shaped leaves and is also hardy to -30°F.
‘Violet Filli’ Crapemyrtle
‘Violet Filli’ grows 1 feet high and wide and features loads of bright violet-purple flowers that rebloom early summer through late fall. It has a compact, full-spiraling habit and is hardy to -30°F.
