The Southern Nursery Association (SNA) has selected Hibiscus ‘Summerific ‘Cranberry Crush’ for its 2013 Retailer’s Choice Award. A total of eleven of the most unique and innovative products with the greatest potential to be best sellers at retail were selected by a panel of independent retailers during the SNA trade show. Jeremy Windemuller, trial manager at Walters Gardens, Inc., was present to accept the award on behalf of the company.
“Retailers are always looking for new and innovative products with great sales potential. The SNA Retailers’ Choice Awards recognize the hottest new products selected by a panel of retailers that are not only unique, but hold great promise of sales in their stores,” said Karen Summers, SNA Executive Vice President.
Hibiscus ‘Summerific Cranberry Crush’ was hybridized at Walters Gardens, Inc., the nation’s leading wholesale perennial grower and hybridizer of perennial hibiscus. The plant’s superior garden performance led to its inclusion in the Proven Winners perennial program in 2011. Since that time, it has consistently been a top seller at both the wholesale and retail levels.
‘Cranberry Crush’ naturally forms a compact, upright rounded clump of deep green foliage without the need for PGRs. Like all members of the Summerific series, it is very long blooming due to its indeterminate flowering. By starting with bare root materials, retailers can have full sized, 3-gallon plants in bloom in just a few short months. This plant commands a high margin at retail and its huge 7-8 inch, scarlet red flowers offer tremendous impulse appeal.
